Nasser Arrayyes , researcher and
legal consultant of Al-Haq
institution said: ’it is an
unjustified act which violates
Geneva agreements which prevents any
destruction of public or private
properties, this act is a war crime
and cannot be accepted even as an
act of revenge (article 56 of Lahai
accord for 1907.’)
Dr.
Al-Barghouti said :’there is no
government in the modern history
that had ever destroyed a
broadcasting building, Israel
practices a state terrorism in the
full sense of the word , he wondered
if there are any measures that could
be taken in the media circles
against Israel in this connection.
The Palestinian Journalists Union
issued a press release stressing
that there is organized terrorism
against the Palestinian media that
aim to suppress the Palestinian
voice in order to pass the Israeli
crimes over our people silently.
Na’eem Toubasi, the union
representative said: ‘this act is a
programmed terrorism against those
who believe in protecting freedom in
the world.
The General Information Corporation stressed that the destruction of the
PBC is an attempt to shut down the
Palestinian voice that reveals the
Israeli acts, and appealed to the UN
General Secretary to take urgent
steps against Israeli and that such
act can’t be called but terrorism. |
National parties and public
institutions in Gaza condemned the
destruction; ‘Fatah’ Faction
described the act to be exceeding
all red lines.
The National Islamic Union wrote to
all Arab embassies in the PNA
explaining the current situation.
Albayyan center set a press release
condemning the attack.
Alshab Party, the Democratic Party
and ‘Feda’ Democratic Party Union
condemned the crime.
‘Muftah (Palestinian Initiative for
Strengthening Dialogue) commented
that ‘this act is a violation of
freedom of press and all accords,
and doesn’t bear any more silence’. |

The general Palestinian Artist Union
condemned the attack which aimed to
hide the truth from the entire
world.
Hafeth Bargothi , chief editor of
Alhayat Aljadeeda paper wrote on Jan
,20,2002 ”…: I think that the
Israeli journalists should stand
firmly against this crime and
condemn it ….’ the Palestinian voice
will never be muted and will resume
carrying pains of this people who
seek freedom and independence’.
Bethlehem TV condemned the crime and
offered any needed support despite
their humble abilities , and
promised that each Palestinian
journalist will be the voice of
Palestine, the voice of rightness
and persistence.
Media workers from beyond the Green
Line areas denounced the crime; Dr.
Ahmad Sa’d, chief editor of Al-Ittihad
paper considered this attack as an
attempt to demolish the Palestinian
existence.
Nabeel Oude, Al-Ahali
editor wrote: ‘it is a crime done to
cut off the way a head the
Palestinian media from reaching the

issued a release expressing his
worries because of the Israeli
attack on the PBC.

Paris:
The spokesman’s assistant of the
French Foreign Ministry Bernard
Falro commented on 22/1/2002:
‘France is worried about the latest
developments against press in
Palestine, it is a policy of racial
discrimination, and we call Israel
to compensate the PBC.
Radwan Abu Ayyash,PBC Chairman
received on Feb,28,2002 a French
academic women delegate and
representatives of local and
municipal French councils .
Abu Ayyash explained to the delegate
the detailed story of the severe
attack, and the Palestinian
persistence to move on, the visit
was prepared by the Palestinian
Women Union.
The delegate assured their
condemnation of the Israeli act and
their support to PBC.

UNESCO:
UNESCO expressed worries of such act
against a formal broadcasting
station.
The National Union of British
Journalists denounced the exploding
of PBC by General Secretary John
Forester who sent a sharp message to
Sharon, he emphasized that
broadcasting stations are civil
institutions and must be protected
according to the international law,
Israel has violated ‘Article 49’ of
Geneva accord for 1949 which
acknowledges the civil rights of
journalist working in war zones and
enjoy protection all over the world.
Journalist Protection Committee in
New York condemned the attack in a
press a release, Al Coper the
Executive Manager said ’ we condemn
that ugly act , Israel by doing so
does not only prevent Palestinians
from getting information, but also
expose all journalists to danger ,
such civil institutions should never
be endangered according to the
international law .
Correspondent without Borders
Organization condemned the attack as
being unacceptable and sent a
protest to the Minister of Army for
such military acts.
International Pen Association in
London directed a letter to Sharon
condemning the explosion.
The Indian Foreign Ministry release
condemned the attack and considered
it as a regression in the peace
process in the Middle East, and
expressed fears of violation after
two weeks of Arafat’s declaration of
cease fire which gave some hope, the
release said that India had always
supported a Palestinian state .

Reactions:
Knesset member Muhammad Ka’nan head of the National Arab Party condemned
the escalation against our people
and the attack on PBC.
Israeli peace supporters condemned
the act and expressed their
solidarity with President Arafat and
the Palestinian journalists during a
reception at the presidential
residence in Ramallah, the reception
was also attended by Knesset member
Ahmad Teebi.
Ouri Aveniri said ‘we are here to
express our solidarity with
President Arafat, the Palestinian
journalists’ and the PBC‘; we call
for the necessity of an
international intervention to put an
end to Sharon’s policy.
Yousi Sarid a Knesset member, head
of opposition said ‘the act is
stupid and has negative effects on
Israel.’(Yedeot Ahronot 21/1/2002).
Knesste member from Merets Dan Kohen
denounced the military act ‘it is a
crazy meaningless step that weakens
us, takes us apart from our only
partner; the PNA.
As a continuation of the Israeli
attack on the Palestinian media in
general and the PBC in specific, the
Israeli Government and Ministry of
Exterior attacked on March 15,2002
computers of PBC by viruses infected
through its e-mail on the
international net causing damage of
devices.
-Colleague Jamil Nawawreh, 35 years
old, director in the Engineering
Department in Voice of Palestine
fell martyr after was shot by
Israeli soldiers during shelling at
Ramallah.
In solidarity with the Palestinian
Broadcasting Corporation , colleague
Radwan Abu Ayyash-PBC Chairman was
awarded the Arab Visual Journalism
Prize from Shikh Rashed Bin
Mohammad Al Maktoom, Dubahi Regent
on 30 April, 2002 within the Arab
Journalist
Festsival .Colleague Abu Ayyash
addressed the festival dedicating
the award for the brave Palestinians
who sacrificed their life for their
freedom and national rights.
Ibraheem Izzidin , head of the
referee committee said in his speech
that the award was approved on by
many ASBU members ,and by Dubai
Journalist Forum to support the
Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation
after being exploded by the Israelis
Likewise , Mohammad Yazid, chairman
of the International News Prize
informed colleague Abu Ayyash that
because of the brave attitude shown
by the working cadre of the PBC
against the Israeli opposing media,
the international news prize will be
awarded to PBC ,Abu Ayyash said ‘
the prize is dedicated to the
Palestinian martyrs and to president
Arafat’s brave attitudes’. |

Morocco
*Egypt:
Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher called
for an end of the Israeli escalation
against the Palestinians and said
after a press conference for
President Mubarak and the
Palestinian Minister of Culture Abed
Rabbo that the world should stand
against this act.
In a seminar organized by Al
’Osbooh’ paper, Egyptian media
workers and intellectuals expressed
their solidarity with Palestinians.
Mahmoud Bakri, deputy chief editor
of the paper said in an opening
speech that Israel was not satisfied
with the assassination policy, house
and land destruction, but tried to
shut down the Palestinian free
voice.
Ibrahim Abu Thekri ,chairman of the
of the Arab Producers Union said
that there must be a real
participation to help our colleagues
in Palestine calling to establish a
new library and to send transmission
devices to Palestine.
Midhat Zaki ,head of production
section in the Egyptian radio and TV
Union said that the union will
contribute to support the voice of
Palestine.
Mohammad Subieh, Palestine’s
representative to the Arab League
,stated that what happened will not
stop us ,the voice of Palestine will
be carried through the internet ,and
tomorrow ,it will be heard from all
Arab radios especially Egypt because
our future and attitude is one.
Amin Bassioni, head of the permanent
committee for media in the Arab
League said that no on can stop the
voice of Palestine since it is
genuine.
At the end the seminar, the
following recommendations were
issued:
- formation of a special
committee that is held
periodically to execute the
decisions.
- establishing a new library,
collecting various devices to sent
to Palestine.
- calling for the actual
participation in the Palestinian
issue from all informal unions
,societies and councils
- sending an appeal to all Arab
satellite channels to put the Logo
of the voice of Palestine and to
specialize one hour daily for
programs about Palestine.
- condensing the media
production in the service of
Palestine.
- Artists Mohammad Nooh and
Abdel-Muhsen Salim donated their
offices and some devices to the
voice of Palestine.
Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)
in Tunisia condemned the Israeli act
expressed solidarity and called all
corporations to help reconstruct PBC.
General Secretary of the Arab
Journalist Union Salah Aldin Hafeth
called all broadcasting corporations
to provide equipment to help rebuild
the PBC and support journalists who
suffer unemployment. Union chairman
Ibrahim Nafe’ said in a formal press
release that ‘Sharon’s government
escalated its war against the civil
institutions and the international
silence is a shameful political
scandal.
*Jordan condemns:
A formal spokesman expressed a
rejection of such Israeli policy and
called the international community
to stop this irresponsible Israeli
acts to bring stability to the
region.
*Morocco:
The
national press In Morocco called all
international media institutions to
reveal what is happening in
Palestine, and for a solidarity
stand with the Palestinian
journalists to defend their being,
also demanded that the Arab
journalist should play more
effective role in the Palestinian
struggle towards independence and
called to stop this overlapping
between terror and resistance that
Israel is adopting. |
